Tarkine Wilderness drive (day two), TAS

Day Trip From: Camdale, Burnie
December 2022

On the second day of our Tarkine Wilderness drive, we headed the reverse way down the loop, meaning that we would get to the rainforest parts first, and then we could return the same way without needing to do the big coastal loop that we went on the day before.

This section of the drive was a lot busier than the coastal section – and our first stop at Trowutta Arch we definitely did not have all to ourselves. The other stops weren’t quite as busy, and although it was nice to be in the rainforest, none of the stops were as impressive as the Balfour Track from the day before.

One of the stops was called the Milkshake Hills – and this was a little different as the track climbed up out of the forest onto bare hillsides. On this track we also got an amazing up close view of an echidna 🙂

The best walk in our opinion, was the walk to Lake Chisholm. After this walk, we had a quick stop at a lookout and then headed out of the Tarkine area to visit Stanley and the Nut on the way home.
