Corroboree Rock and Emily and Jessie Gaps, NT
May 2021
Corroboree Rock is in the East MacDonnell Ranges between Trephina Gorge and Alice Springs, and so we stopped for a visit on our way back from a day trip to Trephina Gorge.
The rock itself is a column of grey dolomite known as Pwenye to the indigenous people of the area – and it is a sacred site. During our visit we walked the 15 minute loop walk that goes around the rock.
Emily and Jessie Gaps are small ‘gaps’ in the East MacDonnell Ranges that have parking and picnic tables next to them. They are only 15 minutes drive from Alice Springs, and so we went for a visit after work one afternoon and had a wander around.
The two gaps are 8km apart and there is a walking trail between them – but as we were short of time we drove between the two instead of walking.
Emily Gap turned out to be great for bird-spotting and we saw FOUR different kinds of honeyeaters – including the grey-headed honeyeater for the first time.
