Dangar Lagoon and Racecourse Lagoon, NSW

Day Trip From: Armidale
January 2021

Dangar Lagoon and Racecourse Lagoon are just outside the town of Uralla – a 20 minute drive from our base in Armidale.

We headed over there to do some bird-spotting one morning, and we also stopped there again on our way out of Armidale when we left for our next stay.

The lagoons didn’t really have any obvious trails or way in – so we just tried to find good view points. Once we managed to locate these, we were not disappointed – we found five birds that we hadn’t seen before (Great-crested Grebe, Blue-billed duck, Australasian Shoveler, Musk Dusk, Grey Teal).

It may not be strictly accurate to say that ‘we’ found five new birds – there was another birdwatcher there, and when he saw us, he helped us amateurs locate some of the birds (and also helped us to identify them).
