The Dutchmans Stern, SA

Day Trip From: Port Augusta
April 2021

The name ‘Dutchmans Stern’ refers to a mountain in the Flinders Ranges which supposedly resembles the shape of the stern of an old Dutch ship. It has an altitude of 820m, and it was about an hour’s drive from our base in Port Augusta.

We arrived at around 10.15am and walked the Dutchmans Stern circuit – a 10.5km loop walk that went up to the summit and back.

The views from the trail and the summit were excellent and it took us around four hours to complete the walk.
