Newland Head Conservation Park, SA

Day Trip From: Port Willunga
September 2021

Six months previously – while we were staying in Goolwa Beach – we visited the edge of Newland Head Conservation Park by walking to Waitpinga Cliffs from The Bluff near Victor Harbor. At the time, we decided that we would come back one day and walk to Waitpinga Cliffs from the other side of the park – starting at Waitpinga Beach.

That time had now come, and we arrived at Waitpinga Beach to start the walk at around 11.30am (yes, we stopped for a coffee on the way…). The beach was so nice that we decided to have a stroll along it for a while before starting the walk, and so we eventually set off at about 12.15pm.

The walk took us up to the cliffs via a nice picnic area at Waitpinga Campground where we stopped for lunch, and then after going along the cliffs for a while there was a loop trail to get back to the beach.

Doing this loop meant that we didn’t actually get to the same spot on the cliffs as when we had come from the other direction – so a section of the Waitpinga Cliffs remains unwalked by us – maybe a third visit will be in order one day…

The trail that we followed was called the Coastal Cliffs Walking Trail. It was a distance of 8.6km and it took us around 4 hours to complete including our lunch stop.
