Waterfall Hike – Belair National Park, SA
June 2025
We have visited Belair National Park many times before – with the first time being way back in 2021 when we stayed in Glenalta, Adelaide. We have also walked the Waterfall Hike once before – but as it was nearly four years ago we decided that it was time to to walk it again.
The official walk is a 6.5km loop trail that goes slowly uphill to a couple of waterfalls and then back down again alongside a steep valley. It also passes through Echo Tunnel – a small, dark, 200 metre long tunnel that requires crouching to get through (unless you are very short). The waterfalls only really flow if it has rained recently and so there was minimal water for us to see.
Because we started from Belair Station (a 15 minute drive from our base in Parkside) it added around 2km each way – making a total distance of 10km for the whole walk.
We were very lucky and saw an echidna by the trail (the first one that we’ve ever seen in Belair National Park), and also some koalas (we always see at least one koala in the park).
