Newcastle, NSW

Mar 2022 - 4 days

We had a brief but very pleasant stay in Newcastle in the suburb of ‘The Hill’ – which is apparently a highly desirable inner city suburb. It was walking distance to the city centre, and also just a 10 minute walk uphill to a clifftop walk where you could go in either direction – towards Newcastle Beach, or towards Bar Beach and Merewether Beach. Newcastle is famous for its Ocean swimming pools, and we saw four that were pretty impressive (but obviously too cold for us to go in.. 🙂 )

We stayed in a compact, but very nice unit high up on a hill. We only had a few days there, but we managed to walk along the cliffs in both directions, visit an obelisk monument on a nearby hill, and make a couple of trips into the city centre, looping back round along the Hunter River.

The good

  • Nice unit in a good location
  • Easy to access coastal walks and the city centre

The not so good

  • Tried to go to a craft brewery but it was too crowded
