Ocean Reef, Perth, WA
Ocean Reef was the second stay of the eight weeks that we spent in autumn in Greater Perth, and it was only a ten minute drive from our previous place in Quinns Rocks.
We spent two weeks there and stayed in the upstairs part of a large suburban house. The front door was shared, but then we had our own entrance going to the whole top floor – which was very large and even had its own balcony.
Our location was only a ten minute walk to the coast under normal circumstances, but unfortunately the whole nearby coastal area was closed and had been turned into a massive building site for the construction of a new mega marina complex.
This meant that we had to walk at least 25 minutes to get to the water and we had to choose to go either north to Burns Beach, or south towards Mullaloo Beach. Both of these locations were nice, but it would’ve been good if we could walk to and between them without a 2km detour through suburbs and construction works – especially as we had picked this place to be a short walk to the water.
We didn’t go on any major day trips from here, just a short visit to Lake Joondaloop Reserve.
The good
- Clean, spacious accommodation
- Still plenty of snakes to see
- Coastal walks not too far away
The not so good
- Ocean Reef redevelopment blocking water access
- Very windy – too windy to use the balcony most of the time
- Still lots of flies
- Still in the bland suburbs
