Port Lincoln, SA

Aug 2021 - 11 days

Our 12 day ‘holiday’ trip from Darwin to Port Lincoln via the red centre (approx 3200km) was finally over, and it was time to go back to work.

We had booked 11 days in Port Lincoln, and our accommodation was in a shed / granny flat in a garden in the suburbs.

It turned out to be one of our poorer choices, as the place was home-made and a bit neglected. The kitchen sink taps dripped very noisily and the heater was also broken. It took about four days for the guy to come and fix it, and during that time it was VERY COLD. Some of the power sockets didn’t work and because the wifi router was in the main house (too far away to connect to), there wasn’t any wifi as advertised.

There was also no real separation from the owner’s back lawn – so we were disturbed by small children playing ‘knock and run’ on our door, and also a dog that wouldn’t get off our deck. Yes, we are grumpy old people…

Location-wise the place was pretty good – it was very close to the ocean and the Parnkalla Trail – a trail that runs 11km along the shoreline of the Port Lincoln area. Our access point to the trail was pretty much halfway along –  so we walked the whole trail during our stay (roughly 5km north and 6km south).

An added bonus was that ‘Beer Garden Brewing’ was located near the trail – about 3km away. We combined an after-work walk with an after-work beer quite a few times. We also found a coffee place nearby (Boston Bean Company) that served ‘fancy’ V60 coffees.

During our stay we went on day trips to Lincoln National Park, Coffin Bay National Park, and Sleaford Bay.

The good

  • The Parnkalla Trail
  • Close to two National Parks
  • Beer Garden Brewing
  • Boston Bean Company

The not so good

  • Accommodation was not the best
  • Rainy and very windy a lot of the time
