Kakadu National Park, NT

Day Trip From: Humpty Doo
August 2021

Our day trip to Kakadu National Park was actually a two day trip. Being two hours away from where were staying, we figured it would be better to spend the night there and then we could also see more of the park.

Our first stop was the Mamukala Wetlands area – where there was a bird hide and a few walking trails. We decided against doing the walks as we had been on similar ones in the Fogg Dam area a lot of times and there were other areas of the park that we wanted to see more of – so after some bird-watching and a coffee we moved on.

Our next stop was the Burrungkuy area – where we spent the rest of the day.

After spending the night in a tourist bungalow, we got up the next morning and went briefly to Cahills Crossing, before heading over to Ubirr – one of the most famous areas in the National Park (because of its rock art).

After Ubirr we proceeded to the Erre area of the park where we did some more walking.

Finally, to round off the day we went back to Cahills Crossing to go crocodile spotting. We found plenty of crocodiles there…

On the way back to Humpty Doo we had another brief stop at Mamukala Wetlands, and then just before we got home (and just before we were about to run out of petrol!) we spotted some brolgas in a field by the highway – the first time that we had managed to spot them in the Top End.
