Kinglake National Park, VIC

Day Trip From: Doreen, Melbourne
December 2022

This was a half-day trip out from Doreen to walk a short trail going to Mason Falls, and stop for lunch on the way back in Kinglake.

The walk was very pleasant with some nice ‘ferny’ bits and a good bit of forest – and we saw an echidna – YES! The falls were quite nice-looking, but more ‘cascady’ than spectacular, and afterwards we also drove up to Mount Sugarloaf lookout – which I would call ‘underwhelming’…

We also found a Macedonian monastery just by the park gates! Apparently it was built in the 1970s, but burned down in the 2009 Black Saturday bushfires and had to be rebuilt.
