Lincoln National Park is right at the bottom of the Eyre Peninsula and it was only a 30 minute drive from our base in Port Lincoln. As there were a lot of walking trails there, we picked two 6km loop walks based on ease of access (many parts of the park are 4WD access only, or very rough 2WD roads) and potential for good scenery.

The first of these was the Stamford Hill Loop Hike – which started from Stamford Hill beach, ascended Stamford Hill, and then descended down the other side to return back to the start (including a short detour to Woodcutters Beach where we had lunch).

The second walk was the Donington Loop Hike, which we started from September Beach and went anti-clockwise – crossing the Donington Peninsula to arrive at Engine Point and then following the coast back to September Beach.

The park turned out to be a great place for spotting birds, and along with the very rare rock parrot we also saw a striated pardalote, purple-gaped honeyeater, southern scrub-robin, and black-faced cormorants for the first time.
