The Riesling Trail, SA
The Riesling Trail is a 33km walking and cycling track that follows an old railway line and runs from Barinia to Auburn through the Clare Valley. There are many cellar doors along the way where you can take a minor detour and go wine-tasting.
The two places that we stayed in the Clare Valley (Clare and Watervale) were both on this trail, and we did a day’s walking and wine-tasting from each of these places.
Starting from Clare, we walked to Sevenhill and back (12km return) and went wine-tasting at Tim Adams Wines, Shut the Gate, Sevenhill Cellars, and Good Catholic Girl (where we met ‘Sister Sue’ – who we saw again later in Watervale).
Starting from Watervale, we walked to Auburn and back (20km return) and went wine-tasting at Wines by KT and Mount Horrocks Wines. We also had the famous, delicious rosemary-covered hot chips from the Auburn Roadhouse.
