Gorge Hike in Onkaparinga River National Park, SA

Day Trip From: Port Willunga
October 2021

Onkaparinga River National Park is about 12km long and straddles the area on both sides of the Onkaparinga River. At the eastern end the river is in a deep gorge.

We went several times to Onkaparinga River National Park to walk various other short trails, but the highlight of the park was the Gorge Hike.

The Gorge Hike was only 6km long but parts of it were extremely steep, and a fairly long section by the river was pretty much a ‘scramble over the rocks and find your own trail’ situation – so it took us almost four hours to walk the trail (including a nice 30 minute lunch break by the river).

During the walk we spotted a cuckoo in the forest on the way down to the river, and while we were eating our lunch we had a good view of a koala.
