Batman Bridge and Beauty Point, TAS
January 2023
Batman Bridge was about a five minute drive from our place in Hillwood. It’s the only bridge across the River Tamar between Launceston and the coast, and it’s a pretty cool-looking bridge. It’s also nothing to do with the caped crusader (although that didn’t prevent us from singing the Batman theme song every time we drove over it…), and is currently named after John Batman – a dodgy bloke from the olden days. The bridge was finished in 1968 and was the first cable-stayed bridge in Australia.
We went to the bridge after work to take a look, and then walked over it for a view of the Tamar River. We then drove over it and made our way to the small town of Beauty Point via Sidmouth and Beaconsfield. At Beauty Point we went for a bit of a walk and then decided to have fish and chips before we drove home.
