Belair National Park, SA

Day Trip From: Glenalta, Adelaide
October 2021

Belair National Park is the oldest National Park in South Australia, and as it was only a 20 minute walk from where we were staying, we went there pretty much every day – either for a short walk after work, or a long walk at the weekend.

There were plenty of trails and tracks in the park which were all connected together. Some of them had been turned into official colour-coded walking routes to follow. We picked a few of these and walked the Wood Duck Walk (1km) (which goes around Playford Lake), the Lorikeet Loop Walk (3.5km), the Microcarpa Hike (4km), and the Waterfall Hike (6.5km).

Most of the walks passed through really nice forest, and the whole park is full of Koalas. We saw at least one Koala on every visit.

The Waterfall Hike was the steepest and longest of the walks, and we did this one on a Sunday afternoon. The waterfalls didn’t have much water in them, but the rocky escarpments were scenic and there was a section of trail that went through Echo Tunnel – a long, dark, and quite small tunnel that went under a railway line.
