Glenalta, Adelaide, SA

Oct 2021 - 7 days

Glenalta is a leafy suburb of Adelaide next to the Adelaide Hills – it was the second stay of our ‘mini-break’ that we took from Port Willunga (we wanted to continue staying where we were, but somebody else’s booking was in the way – so we left Port Willunga for 12 days and then went back to the same place).

We arrived here after a public holiday weekend in Port Vincent, and before we checked in we stopped on the way for a delicious lunch at ‘North Indian Cuisine’ in Glenelg.

Our accommodation was a wooden construction at the bottom of somebody’s garden – but it was a long garden, and the owner had fenced off our part of the property entirely and also built a private driveway. It was also backed by lots of greenery and even had its own wooden deck at the back – so it was pretty much as good as a separate place.

It was quite a small living space (one large room) – but we just about managed to get all our stuff into it with a bit of creative furniture re-arranging.

The location was excellent – Belair National Park was only a 20 minute walk away, and the suburb of Blackwood (with a shopping area) was also nearby. We went for a few walks around the local area – including to nearby Wittunga Botanic Garden – and we also found good coffee and Mexican food in Blackwood.

The highlight though, was definitely the nearby Belair National Park – we went there almost every day for an after-work walk, and also went back for a longer walk at the weekend.

The area is known for its Koala population, and we even saw one just around the corner (as well as LOTS of them in Belair National Park).
