Greenfields Wetlands, SA

The Greenfields Wetlands are in Salisbury in the north of Adelaide – and as we were looking for somewhere in the north to visit on the way to our favourite Sri Lankan restaurant (Thiruna) – we decided to go there for a short walk and to see if we could find any new birds.

The area itself was pretty small and it didn’t take long to walk around – but the bird spotting exceeded our expectations with TWO new bird species that we had never spotted before – the hoary-headed grebe and the red-kneed dotterel.

Another surprise was that there were several well-dressed men hanging around in the area who didn’t look like birdwatchers or walkers. Apparently the Greenfields Wetlands are also a well-known gay cruising area…
