Overland Corner, SA

Day Trip From: Barmera
January 2022

Overland Corner is where paddle steamers on the Murray River used to stop to be supplied with timber for fuel. Back in the day it had a school and a police station, but now all that remains of the settlement is the pub – the Overland Corner Hotel – which was built in 1859. The pub was closed for a while, but reopened in 1965 and is now a bit of a tourist attraction.

The area around it is now a reserve with a loop walk starting from the pub and taking in the river. We went here after work one day – when even at 5pm it was 36 degrees – yes it was VERY HOT walk! And also the pub was not open…
